2017-18 ING Grant Eligibility Data Now Available via GAP Access

Effective immediately (as of Saturday, July 1, 2017), eligibility data for the 2017-18 Illinois National Guard (ING) Grant Program is available online, and may be accessed via the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) Gift Assistance Programs Access (GAP Access) portal.

As a reminder, ING Grant processing takes place through ISAC's GAP Access portal. When a student submits an ING Grant application to ISAC, a record is added to the college's database in the ING Grant system. These records may be viewed on the "ING Student List Eligibility: View," which displays in the same format and has the same sort and filter functions as are used in the Monetary Award Program (MAP) system.

The ING Grant eligibility data you access includes information for each applicant who has applied for the ING Grant with your institution listed as the college of record, and for whom the Department of Military Affairs in Illinois (DMAIL) has confirmed eligibility as of the "Certified Eligible" date that displays on the "ING Student List Eligibility: View."

Data will be available whenever there is a new or updated eligible record for the college. While new data could potentially be available on a daily basis, the college may not have students that appear in the system each day. It is recommended that the college check GAP Access at least once a week for new data that may have been posted for the 2017-18 academic year.

The ING Grant system in GAP Access is available each day from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. (CT).

Update GAP Access User Privileges

The college's GAP Access Primary Administrator must update privileges for the appropriate staff to access the ING Grant system. Instructions for updating user privileges are provided in the GAP Access User Guide, which is located on the GAP Access page.

Looking Ahead: Submission of Benefits Used Data is Required to Ensure Accurate Assessment of Eligibility Units

As has been the case in recent years, the fiscal year 2018 (FY2018) higher education budget is not anticipated to provide for compensating institutions for waiving the tuition and fees of Guardsmen (meaning that ISAC will not be able to reimburse institutions for 2017-18 ING Grant awards). However, data regarding ING Grant benefits used still must be submitted so eligibility units can be accurately assessed to students' accounts.

We anticipate that functionality for reporting 2017-18 ING Grant benefits used data will be available via the ING Grant system (accessed via the GAP Access portal) in the fall.
