Monetary Award Program Updates

We are sharing the following with you as an update on the status of various Monetary Award Program (MAP) issues.

2016-17 MAP Close-out

We would like to extend our thanks to college financial aid staff for the timely submission of 2016-17 MAP data (claims, adjustments, cancellations) by the August 25 deadline. At this time, processing is complete and all records have been reconciled. Debit letters outlining refund amounts owed to ISAC are being sent to financial aid directors via e-mail. Please watch for its arrival and if necessary, forward the e-mail to other staff member(s) as appropriate.

2017-18 MAP Payment Processing – Hold Payment Requests

Moving ahead into the current fiscal year, the program has undergone a change in the formula for calculating awards as the result of receiving higher than anticipated funding. When the state operating budget was finalized in July, it included a $401,341,900 appropriation for FY18 MAP. At the July Commission meeting a recompute formula, based on the appropriation received, was approved that includes:

  • an increase in tuition and fees to the FY10 level, with a corresponding change in the Pell level, and
  • a lowering of the reduction factor from its current 5% to 2%.

Using the new formula, all 2017-18 MAP awards were recomputed in August, and it is anticipated that the Gift Assistance Programs (GAP) Access portal will be opened for submission of payment requests in early October. So that we are able to better leverage our resources as we work to administer not only MAP, but our other scholarship and grant programs as well, across multiple years, we are requesting that all pending FY18 (2017-18 academic year) MAP payment requests be held and not submitted until we announce that GAP Access is open for processing. Once open, processing will take place on a nightly basis, as is our usual practice.
