2017-18 MTI and Golden Apple Updates: Awards Announced and Payment Request Rosters Available

Award Notifications

Last Thursday (October 26, 2017), awarding for all qualified and eligible (including timely, untimely, new and renewal) applicants took place for the 2017-18 Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship and Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois programs. You will be notified if future rounds of awarding take place.

Award notifications for the MTI Scholarship Program are being mailed to eligible students by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), and the Golden Apple Foundation communicates directly with Golden Apple award recipients.

Online processing for the MTI Scholarship and Golden Apple programs is done via the Teacher Education Scholarship Programs (TESP) area of the My Zone portal, where colleges may access new eligible award information (including funded or unfunded status). Award announcement categories for eligible students include:

  • Eligible - Funded: students who are eligible for an award; and
  • Eligible - Unavailable Funds: students who are eligible for the award, but for whom funds are not available.

Resources regarding the award process may be accessed from within My Zone's TESP Notification area.

Be sure to continue completing and submitting Initial Certifications for these programs throughout the year, so that applicants will receive the appropriate notifications and be included in any future rounds of awarding.

Payment Request Rosters

Initial payment request rosters are now available via the My Zone portal, allowing 2017-18 payment processing to commence for the MTI Scholarship and Golden Apple programs.

  • TESP payment functionality at My Zone consists of two components: TESP Payment Request Roster and TESP Payment Authorization. Results for payment requests received will be available via TESP Payment Authorization after vouchers have been generated and the corresponding Voucher Numbers are entered into the My Zone system by ISAC staff. Vouchers are sent via e-mail to financial aid directors. Colleges are encouraged to check My Zone every week for results of previously-submitted payment requests.
  • The disbursement of funds will be processed by the State Comptroller's Office. Refer to the State Comptroller's Website page, located within the Processes section of the Financial Aid Administrators area, for information on how to track payment.
  • TESP payment functionality at My Zone is available each Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. (CT).

Security Levels for Accessing Data

Individuals who can access TESP certification and notification data in My Zone can now view the TESP payment screens via My Zone. It's important to note, however, that the security level for a staff person to request, edit or update TESP payment claims must be set to Level 3 ("Cert Update, Award View, Payment Update") by the My Zone administrator at each college. The My Zone administrator should set user access to Level 1 ("Cert View, Award View, Payment View") for staff who will not be involved in requesting payment, but need to view TESP certification, notification and payment information.
