Funding Still Available – Illinois Teachers Loan Repayment Program

03/22/2023

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) would like to invite you to consider applying for the Illinois Teachers Loan Repayment Program. The application period for fiscal year 2023 remains open and funding is still available for those who qualify.

The program awards up to $5,000 to Illinois teachers in low-income areas to help with repaying student loan debt. If you met the qualifications for the federal government's loan forgiveness program, you may also be eligible for ISAC's program.

Among other requirements, eligible applicants must have fulfilled a five-year teaching obligation in an Illinois elementary or secondary school designated as a low-income school. In addition, you will be asked to provide a copy of the letter indicating you have been approved for the federal program. Your completed application, along with all required documentation, must be submitted to ISAC within six (6) months of the date on the Notice of Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness eligibility from the federal government.

Complete information about the program is available on our website:

If you think you may be eligible for the Illinois Teachers Loan Repayment Program, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Fiscal year 2023 will shortly be drawing to a close, so interested applicants should begin the application process as soon as possible.

ISAC representatives are available to answer your questions about the program and how to apply as noted below.
