FAFSA Renewal Process

A student must apply for federal student aid for every school year that they attend college.

Students who had a successful match on Social Security number (SSN), name, and date of birth with the Social Security Administration (SSA), and who provided their e-mail address on the 2023-24 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) in the prior award year are eligible to renew their FAFSA. Students who are renewal-eligible should anticipate receiving e-mails or SMS notifications from Federal Student Aid if they have not yet filed the 2024-25 FAFSA when such notifications are generated (typically around late January or early February but, because the 2024-25 FAFSA first became available in December 2023, possibly later for the 2024-25 processing cycle).

When an applicant logs in to renew their FAFSA form, it will be pre-populated with certain information from the prior academic year. The applicant must update any data that may have changed.

Remind applicants to contact the financial aid office with any questions about the renewal process and deadlines. Just as when submitting a FAFSA for the first time, a FAFSA submitted using the renewal process should be signed with the student's FSA ID (and by all contributors with their own FSA ID, if applicable), and the confirmation page should be printed. Applicants can also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) for answers to questions about renewing their FAFSA.
